I’m just waiting on feedback from my contact at kimessteel.com to complete the documentation on the UPS certification process. In the mean-time, if you are interested in helping, let me know.

The extension is now available for download.

I would like to purchase this extension, but I’m a bit hesitant since there is no documentation or installation instructions? Would you be willing to help configure the module?
Posted by Rick on January 13, 2011 at 9:49 pm
I too am interested in purchasing this extension, but without documentation and installation instructions I too am hesitant.
Can you provide any documentation yet??
Posted by Louis on January 14, 2011 at 12:50 pm
I just posted documentation on the UPS extension.

When a user checks out using this extension, is the UPS account automatically billed the shipping charges? I would like to use this simply to calculate the LTL shipping fees and charge the user, but not automatically generate any charges in our UPS account. This is because our products are drop shipped from our suppliers and they are the ones who actually pay UPS shipping fees.
Posted by Louis on February 10, 2011 at 8:34 pm
It simply calculates the shipping estimate. No billing charges occur.

Hi Louis,
Same question I posted on the FedEx freight extension – Is the UPS Freight extension compatible with Magento Enterprise Edition?
thanks!

Has this ever been addressed? Does this extension work with Enterprise Edition?
Posted by Louis on January 13, 2015 at 1:45 am
Yes it is.

Does this module allow the UPS tracking number to automatically be populated in Magento from UPS?
Posted by Louis on May 19, 2011 at 11:23 am
No. Since it’s a just a rate request, no tracking number is generated. You will still need to add the tracking number to the order once it becomes available (just like you would for the default UPS/FedEx modules that come with Magento).

What I don’t understand is the following. How can the module get accurate rates if it is not taking dimensions into account? Even for standard shipping, If you go on UPS rate calculator they ask you for overall weight plus dimensions. Magento does not have dimensions fields?
Posted by Louis on April 27, 2012 at 4:38 pm
Good question. The freight module communicates with UPS’s backend freight calculator which does not require dimensions, much like their online page (https://wwwapps.ups.com/fctc/timeandcost?loc=en_US).
Posted by Steve Barak on April 27, 2012 at 4:50 pm
So how does the module know if the shipment will be on 1, 2 or more pallets? How does it know the overall size of each pallet, the overall size determines the final rate.
Posted by Steve Barak on April 27, 2012 at 5:37 pm
The problem I am having on my site is most of my products are over size, especially when purchased in qty. So all the standard weight price rules are out the window. I also see that Magento UPS module does not even pass dimensions to the UPS gateway, as there is not even a field in Magento products to input dimensions.
I am so truly amazed and disappointed with Magento for lacking basic features you find in other open source eCommerce platforms, yet I continue to use it 🙂
Posted by Anonymous on May 3, 2012 at 4:57 pm
Yes you are correct. The UPS freight service does not accept dimensions.

Hi We bought your extension we are trying to integrate extension but we are getting error:
” User is not eligible for contract rates.”
Posted by Louis on April 14, 2017 at 3:05 pm
Hi Sandeep,
That error is coming back from the UPS API – meaning the UPS user account is not configured/setup for contract rates. You will need to contact UPS to get this straightened out.
Thanks,
Louis
